SEMI FINALS 2007
The Semi’s
Now that the eliminators have been completed we have a full list of the runners and riders for the semi finals. Some of the finest talent in UK competition carping will be out in force trying to get through to the finals and the competition will be tough, but with £10,000 and a name in the history books up for grabs it’s a prize well worth winning.
The Players
Interestingly the first rounds saw a lot of the bigger names fall by the wayside and the first semi sees a lot of unnamed anglers through. There’s a lot of talent in this line up and whilst there are clear favourites, it is a race that could be won by anyone. The second semi sees a few more of the BCAC old hats getting through and with 7 pairs qualifying from the first event, and 8 from the second, the 15 pairs that get through to the finals at Horseshoe to try to take the crown from reigning champions Will and Dan O Flynn will really deserve to be there.
The Team Event
At the start of the eliminators three pairs registered together under a team name to form a team. The aim was to get as many pairs through to the semi’s as possible, and some teams failed and have already been knocked out. In the semi’s, the points of all of the team players that qualify are combined to give the team totals, and the team with the greatest points at the end of the second semi will be the team that wins the overall title this year. You can see who is representing who in the entry lists below.
The Venue
Each competitor chooses the eliminator that suits their style of carp fishing, but once through the first round they have to follow the organisers route. Horseshoe is an out and out “proper” carp lake and “usual” tactics will work well there, but the venue that hosts the semi’s is something a little different. Willen South Lake is an MKAA water that has been heavily stocked with small fish for match purposes. Those fish have now grown on to between 4 and 14 lbs and it means that the competitors will now have to prove that they can catch a lot of smaller carp as well as the big ones before they can be crowned champs. At approximately 90 acres Willen South is a big water but carp can be found everywhere. The match is pegged along the A, B and C sections and big weights are expected. For more info please check out www.mkaa.co.uk.
In addition to excellent fishing Willen Lake is a water-sports mecca hosting power boating, water skiing, windsurfing and even dragon boating. Situated in a fantastic public park with plenty for the whole family to do it’s a great day out. Check out www.whitecap.co.uk for more info.

Event HQ is The Lakeside Pub on the banks of Willen and there will be a control tent at the south end of the hotel / bar complex with results updates and press details available throughout the whole competition.
