Merrington is one of the North Wests top day ticket water and is situated in glorious Shropshire countryside. Last year was our first visit and all of the lads reckoned it was a great event with fish coming form all over the pond. They follow the wind, very quickly, so don’t just think about the weather at the time of the draw. Look at the long term forecast as there is no knowing where the carp are likely to turn up.

They follow the wind very quickly so don't just think about the weather at the time of the draw, and when you look at the line up for this year, what a draw we are going to have. Merrington has attracted a number of the BCAC 'hotshot's' such as Hutchinson, Bartlett, Bury & Brown, the list just goes on and on! However, with only three teams going through, they can't all make it through to Barston. This one's going to be a cracker!
MATCH SUMMARY
The Merrington fishery in the heart of gorgeous Shropshire countryside is a sight to behold and proved last year to be a great competition venue. Young guns Carl Sharp and Matt Woods, who will no doubt soon be snapped up by someone, shot into an early lead fishing bags of pellets over hemp / pellets to the islands and last years qualifiers but big fish boys Vernon Ledbetter and James Massey were soon snapping at their heels with a couple of bigger fish from the opposite side of a snaggy island.
By the mid way stage it was developing into a 3 horse race between Sharp / Woods, Massey / Ledbetter and CC Moore’s Rich Seeds and Lee Pollard who caught steadily through Saturday morning. Elsewhere around the pond it was quiet as the fish refused to play ball and the three horse race continued.
As the hooter sounded it was Hutchinson / Gascoyne that sat at the top of the tree, followed very closely by Woods/Sharp then Pollard/Seeds.
Everyone congratulated the qualifiers on an impressive display of angling and as the Total Angling tackle prizes were handed out Hutchinson / Gascoyne very generously donated theirs to Carping for Cancer.
