Another venue that can be weedy alter in the year so we’ve brought the event forwards to the start of the calendar. It’s a beautiful typical Colne Valley gravel pit steeped in carp fishing history. Over the years virtually every swim has been either competitive or has actually qualified so it’s very even, and the fish are absolutely stunning.
ELIMINATOR SPONSOR
Abbey Lakes
Abbey Lakes is the place to be in France, only 2 hours away from Calais and is a complex of 4 carp lakes with fantastic facilities. In fact the clubhouse has been described as the best angling facility in Europe. Fox and Heron are the main attractions for the carp angler as they hold the biggest of the fish. The complex record on Heron is 75lb 4oz!! Atilla is a great place to go if the fishing is tough as you are virtually guaranteed a bite with a good head of 20s, and Kingfisher is the new one on the complex that holds some unknown monsters and some massive cats.
With renovated shower blocks, a grocery shop along with a tackle and bait shop it is a home from home trip for as short or as long as you want to be there. They'll even deliver your food directly to your swim... you don't even need to reel your rods in! What more could you ask for?
One of the most mature and arguably the best looking venue in the BCAC tour, Thorney Weir really is a carp anglers dream. This West Drayton day ticket water holds some stunning fish from singles figures right through to over 40lb and has bars, bays, islands, channels and plenty of weed. Over the years Thorney has proved itself to be a very good eliminator venue with no year ever the same as the last with all modern carp catching methods coming into play. Not much occuring in the in the team event on Thorney with just a single pair in the shake-up, but after getting off to a fine start in round 1, the Afishionado boys will be looking to get another pair through to the first semi-final and get a firm grip on this sought after title.
MATCH SUMMARY
Crystal clear water put the fish on their guard at the usually prolific Abbey Lakes sponsored Thorney Weir event. Local rods Ryan King and Dave Hart took the top honours fishing bags and light spod tactics to take 4 good fish for a weight of 83.06. Afishionado’s Tony Robinson joined forces with former carp angler of the year Craig Lyons to net second with 37.00, and Ricky Griffiths / Rich Brown managed third with 32.06. Elsewhere it was just the odd fish caught as the carp refused to play ball despite everyone’s best efforts.
