The Lower is a gem of a water that, if night fishing were allowed, would be a high value syndicate that you couldn’t get on for love nor money. It holds a fantastic head of thirties that are real history fish and they look simply magical. It’s not easy mind, with just two or three fish usually enough for a place on the podium. Fortunately we can fish it at night and as a result it usually throws up a few prizes. All of the swims can potentially win the event and it is possibly the least peggy lake in the whole of the tour.

The Lower is a gem of a water that, if night fishing were allowed, would be a high value syndicate that you couldn't get on for love nor money. Past Walthamstow winners Phil Dasilva and Lyndon Hodgson head the line up here, but with teams in from the in-form RAF, The Tackle Box, and a host of talented privateers, it's yet another hugely competitive qualifier.
MATCH SUMMARY
The Lower Maynard is always a popular event in the BCAC calendar, especially as it is a venue that is not normally available for night fishing. Add into the mix that there are a lot of good 20s and a handful of 30s in the lake and you can see why it is a great carp venue. Usually home to some of the bigger beasties of the tournament, The Lower always throws up a 30 or three and there were high hopes for this year as the competitors lined up for the off.
As the event wore on the leaders stayed there and stretched their legs, but after the unsettling start for the carp they soon got into feeding mood and a few of the fish that The Lower is famous for started coming to the net. Nathan Crowder and Colin Crowder bagged a cracking 30lb mirror and the fish started to feed, but once again it was only bags and bits that were doing the trick.
