Mainline Chilham Mill (1)
Always a popular venue with the BCAC competitors, Chilham Mill actually hosts 2 rounds of the BCAC to keep up with demand for places. Stuffed with 20s, a very good head of 30s, and now fish to 45lbs it is a big fish water where big weights are required to secure a placing. Maggots dominated last year when the Swain brothers landed a massive 617.01 in just 48 hours.

Pre-Match
Known as the twenties and thirties factory of the South East, the picturesque Mid Kent Fisheries Chilham Mill is now producing a few forties so this is a venue to keep an eye out for in the biggest fish of the tournament race. It’s also one to keep an eye out for because last year it produced a ridiculous weight when the Swain brothers dominated the game with 8 gallons of maggots for an incredible weight of 617.08. It’s unlikely that the weight will be surpassed, but you just never know and with a few good anglers plus a load of “Chilhamites” on board you can guarantee that the competition this weekend will be stiff. The big question is where the fish will be. Under match conditions it’s often each end of the lake that produces the goods but with good weather forecast the fish could end up anywhere and swim wise Chiham will be a very difficult one to predict this year.
Match Report
Chilham was looking glorious with fish all over the place but by tea time only 1 fish (25.06) had been landed and that came to the rods of Luke Farnham and John Cruck. The Korda B team of Adam Penning and Tom Dove went heavy on the spod and lost a couple in the process and James Coleman / Darren Belton did the same but got pestered by Tench. The night, despite the good conditions, was fairly quiet and by breakfast on Saturday it was Penning / Dove who lead the way with three fish for 58.09. The unstoppable Holehouse / Huntington nabbed one at the morning score check to take second with 25.08 and Farnham / Cruck kept third with their early 25.06. Saturday saw one or two fish banked but a lot more lost and by dusk a new pairing had come into the frame. Regular finalists Lee Clapperton and Darren Ready put three fish on the bank throughout the day for 82.13. Penning / Dove slipped to 2nd with their 58.09 and new challengers Bob Bartley / Gareth Ridge took third with 31.14. Holehouse / Huntington hung on just off the pace and Farnham / Cruck could only watch in dismay as they had a significant number of fish in front of them but couldn’t capitalize on their earlier lead.
Over night there was a big push by the Mainline team of Huntington / Holehouse and they had increased their tally to 98.13 for first place just before 9am from Penning / Dove whose over night fish tool them to 83.00 just ounces ahead of Ready / Clapperton on 82.13. The home straight proved to incredibly exciting and Ready Clapperton took 5 fish in the final morning, all doubles, to put them on 150.15. It was only enough for third as Penning / Dove took four fish of a bigger size for 160.09 oz which looked like it had secured them the win. However at 1 minute before the final hooter was to sound the unstoppable Holehouse / Huntington has something to say about that and with just a minute on the clock they banked a 17lber to add to a 29.07 and a 25.14 from earlier in the morning to pinch first place at last knockings with a grand total of 171.02 and yet another convincing win for the Mainline pairing.
