Mainline Chilham Mill (2)

Chilham MillAlways a popular venue with the BCAC competitors, Chilham Mill actually hosts 2 rounds of the BCAC to keep up with demand for places. Stuffed with 20s, a very good head of 30s, and now fish to 45lbs it is a big fish water where big weights are required to secure a placing. Maggots dominated last year when the Swain brothers landed a massive 617.01 in just 48 hours.

Match Report

A bit further south the Chilham Mill eliminator was also scheduled for the weekend, and once again the weather would be sure to play a large part in both swim choices, and the way the anglers approached the fishing.

First out of the drawbag was Breeze and Prior, who went for the ever popular Transformer swim, which was peg 6. Bury and Brown came out second and went for peg 1, Mill Corner, and third out were Stanford and Harmer who chose Reynolds Point, peg 3. BCAC two time Champions Jarrett and Gawthorn were also at Chilham, and they chose the Back Bay, but would they make it through to the Semi-finals this time?

As the sum started to rise on Saturday morning Brown and Bury in Mill Corner had steamed into the lead with 99lb 12 oz. With the next pairing of Hamidi and Fareham on 16lb 3oz things were looking good for the lads in peg 1. The Korda boys had come out last in the draw so they were hoping to cause a stir in Shooters down at the far end of the lake. In third place just behind them was Wilmot and Reynolds, on 16lb 8oz.

The fish continued to play hard to get all over the lake during Saturday and Saturday night, and only Bury and Brown in Mill Corner were able to capitalize on the fish in front of them, and by 6am on the Sunday Dave Watson was on Talk Sport on the radio to report to the angling public that the leading pair were now on 165lb 7oz., and looking like runaway winners.

There was a battle behind them though, and in true BCAC tradition there were places up for grabs in the Semis right through to the end, as second place Wilmot and Reynolds were only on 31lb 2oz, meaning only one good fish could send any of the teams into second on the final morning. In third  on 27lb 12oz, Casper and Smith had a nerve wracking few hours on their hands!

Sunday morning and things started to happen again… In a final flurry of action a few fish were landed and the qualifying places were finally decided. Brown and Bury dominated the field with 182lb 11oz, Wilmot and Reynolds finished second on 63lb 8oz, and the third place went to Cobden and Davies with their last morning result giving them 49lb 8oz.
