As stated above it is one of the more prolific waters in our calendar and is ideal for anglers that like to work the swim and get action. Get ready for sleepless nights and nets full of carp and if you want to be in with a chance of winning here you’ve got to be on the ball and prepared to work.

Elphics Round Up

Results
1st - Keith Wheeler / Keith Finch - 1155.13
2nd - Darren Wilcox / Paul Sainty - 388.11
3rd - Andy maker / Tom Maker - 350.14

Wheeler and Finch winners at ElphicksThe Battle of Elphicks was a real turn out for the books with everyone’s eyes on Korda -v- Fox, namely Maker / Maker -v- Rose / Spurgeon. However, it looked all over from the start when the Makers drew badly and ended up at the shallow end of the lake, an area not known for it’s pedigree in the BCAC here.

Against all odds they were lying 3rd by the 6pm score check with a 28.15 mirror. Second were Darren Wilcox and Phil Sainty who had travelled all the way from Middlesborough on 33.02 but leading the pack were Rose and Spurgeon on 36.04. It looked like it was game on, but by dusk it was Wilcox/ Sainty who were leading the way with 62.02 ahead of Keith Wheeler / Keith Finch who jumped from 6th to second on 60.05 ahead of Maker / Maker on 41.00.

As is always the case with Elphicks big weights can be expected and a serious amount of graft is required. Overnight Wheeler / Finch took 11 fish for a total of 258.09 followed by the Makers bagging maggots to amass 145.13 ahead of Wilcox / Sainty who had a quiet night and stayed on 62.02. Elsewhere around the lake fish were caught but it was not the usual hectic action. The morning proved to be busy and at the half way mark Wheeler / Finch were seriously hauling for 481.01 on the maggots with Maker and Maker following suit tactics wise for 286.02. Wilcox / Sainty battled on with 116.00 but they were being threatened by Keith Martin and Steve Cowell  who rose to the challenge to take 4th on 108.01, once again on the maggots.

In an incredible display of hauling Wheeler / Finch had kept the marshals on their toes landing a total of 655.04 (40 fish) to break the all time Elphicks match record and also surpass the Swains incredible result at Chilham (617lbs 01oz). The Makers were battling on in 2nd with 286.02 and third was now Martin / Cowell on 175.07.

Last nights are always crucial in the BCAC and none more so than this night as it was the last chance to get through to the semi’s. By 10pm Wheeler / Finch were still going with 728.10 followed by the Makers whose weight had not changed, but 3rd had changed to Dan Taylor and Chris Rayfield on 202.03. No one got any sleep, and the dawn scores showed that Elphicks really was on fire with Wheeler / Finch now on an incredible 954.14. Maker / Maker had three fish to make 312.12 and Wilcox / Sainty had regained 3rd on 294.13.

In a last gasp sprint there were 6 teams that could have nicked third but it was Maker / Maker who dropped to that position with 350.14. Second was Wilcox / Sainty with 388.11 but the pride and honours had to go to  an incredible display of hauling and endurance from Wheeler / Finch who ended up with 1155lbs 13oz, bad backs, no sleep and the glory of setting an incredible match record.

For the anoraks out there we had 277 fish caught weighing in at in amazing 3340lbs 12 oz. Now that is what we call hauling.

Congratulations to everyone that has made it through to the semi’s  and a big thanks goes out to all the marshals (especially the Elphicks boys)that helped during the eliminators without whom  the championships would not be the same.
