One of only two venues that has been with the BCAC right from the start of the BCAC back in 1999 Pine Pool has matured into one of the top day ticket waters in the midlands. Loads of twenties and a few 30s make this day only water a brilliant option for the local angler. Nights are very productive in the BCAC and zigs work well in the day.
One of the stalwarts of the BCAC Kingsbury’s Pine Pool has been with us from day 1 and it’s still as popular now as it was back then. Every swim on the lake has qualified over the years and we have seen the Pine Pool go from strength to strength as the lake has turned from an easy doubles water to a big fish venue. There are fish over 30lbs in the lake now, and it’s clear shallow water and weed growth offer a challenge to the angler. Normally “no nights” means this is another opportunity to fish in the hours of darkness and usually this is when the action goes silly. Pretty good weights are the norm, with surface baits working in the day and bags / sticks the best tactic at night.
Match Report
Another venue open usually for day only fishing, Pine has a history of being slow in the day and manic at night. Dusk on day 1 proved that history may well repeat itself as only 4 fish had been caught by the dusk score check. Into the lead went Fosters boys and local anglers Tom Collof / Ryan Need with two fish for 28.04. Steve Carrie and Martin Dudley nabbed one of the lakes larger residents at 26. 14 for second and in third sat Ben Aldred and Lee Whittaker.
Night was expected to be hectic, but like all of the other venues fish were caught but it wasn’t “full on”. Whittaker / Aldred emerged victorious with 50.14, Collof / Need slipped to second but increased their tally to 45.13 and Carry / Dudley held third with 43.03. Another 6 teams on the list had caught fish so Kingsbury was still wide open.
Saturday saw dull but warm conditions and the fish started to chase each other round and think about spawning. Despite bags, zigs and floaters in abundance, nothing came out in the hours of daylight and it was only as the sun fell that things started happening again. By morning it was Chelsey Boughen / Mick Davies that had charged into the lead from virtually nowhere with 8 fish for 98.12. The Fosters boys Tom Colloff and Ryan Need slipped to second with 82.04 and Jamie French / Jon hill dropped to third on 76.09. Two other teams really challenged for that last qualifying place and one fish would have got them in there but true to form the lake shut down in the daylight hours and the mid day final results stood the same.
