Previously one of the most prolific venues on the BCAC tour, The No 1 has returned to the calendar this year after a break of a few years. The fish have increased in size and are now present over 30lbs so whilst it is still a pretty good venue for action it is now throwing up some very good carp. Single baits to the island and beds open water are producing at present.
The No 1 reservoir on the high profile Walthamstow complex was the original bag up water in the BCAC calendar and previously produced some big weights. It returns to the BCAC tour this year after a 3 year lay off during which time the venue underwent some fishery management changes.
Some of the fish were removed to make room for the others to grow and it’s back on form again with a lot of good 20s and the odd 30 up to 37lbs being caught. It’s a good sized venue with a large island in the middle of the lake that virtually all of the swims can aim at. Tight to the islands is a good bet, but over the last couple of years the fish have been coming from open water making it a very fair venue which can be won from virtually anywhere.
Match Report
Decent weights were expected at Walthamstows No 1 reservoir and despite the rain it didn’t disappoint. Into the lead by tea on day one went previous No 1 winners Danny Henwood and Simeon Bond with 6 fish for 68.12. Korda B team members Daryl Peck and Joe Morgan had car trouble and nearly didn’t make the event but were glad they did with 21.10 for second place and in third were Tony Picardo and Vince Long with 1 fish for 18.08.
Nights are always productive on this usually day only venue and by 6am on day two Henwood / Bond had really got into the swing of things romping away with 203.01. Picardo / Long took 7 fish for 83.04 dropping Morgan / Peck into the danger zone with 73.02. and Farlows hotshots Wayne Mansford / Phil Bevan were snapping at their heels with 45.05. Sat was a very quiet affair despite the rain with only the leaders adding to their tally increasing their total to 223.08 in the process. The last night saw Henwood and Bond in full steam again and by dawn their impressive result was now 319.03. The team Korda B boys had a great night and took 5 fish in the hours of darkness upping their total to144lbs exactly netting vital points for their team and a place in the semi’s by overtaking Picardo / Long who held third with 88.14. Grant Deacon and Darren Brannan came in to a challenging position at one stage with 70.09 but it just wasn’t enough and the last morning saw no change to the leader board as the sport slowed down for the daylight hours and the result stayed the same by close of business.
